Annual Concert 2017

Our annual concert took place on Saturday 21st January 2017 at 7.30pm at Thornden Hall in Chandlers Ford.

Listen to concert extracts: CredoCum Sancto SpirituVerdi Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from NabuccoRossini Prayer from Moisie

Read the concert review

The audience enjoyed a “feast” of Rossini’s music with an “appetizer “of two Italian opera choruses (including Verdi’s Chorus of Hebrew Slaves)  followed by a “mise en buche” of a remarkable piano piece played by four people (yes, eight hands) on one piano!

The main course was Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, which is neither small, nor solemn. It is passionate, dramatic and witty and bowled over its audience at the first performance in Paris (where Lavigniac, the composer of the piano piece was also present). Keen listeners would have detected hints of Baroque, Palestrina and Bach as you “drink in” this mass by Rossini and you would be right.
